CHIPDRIVE® SmartLock - the new RFID electronic door lock

CHIPDRIVE® SmartLock is the easy way to replace a mechanical door lock with an RFID electronic door lock to convert your “conventional” door into an electronical access control system.

SCM Microsystems Offers First Certified Smart Card Reader for the New Electronic ID Card in Germany

SANTA ANA, Calif. and ISMANING, Germany, May 12, 2010 – SCM Microsystems, Inc., a leading provider of solutions for secure access, secure identity and secure exchange, announced today that its contactless smart card reader SCL011 is the first reader to be certified by the Federal Office for Information Security (Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik, or “BSI”) to be used with the new electronic ID card (neuer Personalausweis, or “nPA”) in Germany.

Beginning November 1, 2010, the nPA – a contactless smart card – will replace the statutory plastic identification card currently held by German citizens. The new electronic ID provides security for online transactions and offers many new functions and capabilities, all in a convenient credit card format.

Many activities of daily life and business, such as opening a banking account or purchasing products, are now performed over the Internet. However, so far there is no standardized proof of identity in the online world; and different passwords, codes or access cards are needed to handle different applications. For German citizens, the nPa electronic ID card bridges this gap: proving your identity in the online world is now as fast, easy and secure as presenting the nPa card. Securely purchasing goods via the Internet, downloading music, confirming your age or place of birth, filing an insurance claim, or communicating with local or federal authorities and administrations are easily accomplished, saving time and money for all concerned. To perform or access services online, the nPA requires a specialized smart card reader that is easily attached to an individual’s PC.

The contactless reader SCL011 from SCM Microsystems is the first such reader to be certified for the nPa card. It connects to PCs via USB, and acts as a link between the electronic ID card and the PC. The reader supports Windows® XP, Vista®, Windows®7, MacOS X and Linux for Ubuntu, OpenSuse and Debian OS. SCM’s proprietary SCT3 controller chip with SmartOS® allows secure firmware updates to the reader to support new card requirements or functionality enhancements.

Following its certification, the SCL011 can now be employed in user tests organized by Germany’s Federal Ministry of the Interior, which allow government authorities, companies and otherinstitutions to acquaint themselves with and analyze the performance of the nPa electronic ID card system.

SCM Microsystems and Hirsch Electronics Win Major Critical Infrastructure Project in UAE with Local Partners Al Otaiba & Native Systems

Identive Group (NASDAQ: INVE; Frankfurt Stock Exchange: INV), a provider of products, services and solutions for the security, identification and RFID industries, today announced that its SCM Microsystems and Hirsch Electronics business units have teamed up with local partner Native Systems to deliver a comprehensive smart access control solution to the Critical National Infrastructure Authority (CNIA) in Abu Dhabi, which is tasked with handling the protection and security of the emirate’s vital assets and infrastructure.

The integrated smart access control platform enables CNIA to centrally manage and track the access of employees, visitors and contractors across various CNIA sites. The combined SCM and Hirsch solution integrates the various CNIA sites onto a common security platform, ensuring consistent levels of security and technology standards across the system while providing increased flexibility to develop and manage the infrastructure of individual sites.

SCM MIcrosystems Further Expands its Product Portfolio

ISMANING, Germany, March 11, 2010 – SCM Microsystems, Inc., a leading provider of solutions for secure access, secure identity and secure exchange, is expanding its smart card reader and terminal portfolio with three new products that address different physical and logical access control applications. The devices are addressing the latest market requirements regarding security and convenience.

Based on a Memorandum of Understanding with Sony Corporation to develop and supply FeliCa® contactless card readers for international markets, SCM developed the PAT1461 physical access control terminal. In line with SCM’s strategy and focus on contactless applications and markets, the new terminal supports Sony’s FeliCa contactless technology. FeliCa is based on radio frequency identification (RFID) technology and enables flexible and secure contactless transactions, making it useful for a variety of applications. The first installation of the physical access control terminal is in Sony’s office in Brussels, Belgium.

The SPR332 PINpad reader is suitable for a range of applications requiring secure PIN entry. As the reader allows authentication processes to be securely executed within the device, the PIN is protected from theft. Hence, the reader is ideal for digital signatures, authentication and verification applications. The reader supports secure e-Commerce, eHealth and similar applications where securing of private data is key.

SCR339 is a PC keyboard with an integrated ID-1 (credit card format) contact smart card reader. It is based on SCM’s STC3 chip, and is suitable for a wide range of applications, for example protected PIN (Personal Identification Number) entries, authentication for web services such as home banking or electronic payments, digital signing of documents or data encryptions. The SCR339 can be ordered in several language options and branded with a customer logo.
